John,

Not having a dog in this fight the most I saw him take credit for was rewinding some coils and lubrication. But I understand your reaction

He even acknowledges that there was previous restoration on the xmtr.

I have seen worse. I had a Ten Tec 160 mtr transverter at Nearfest one year. It was priced at $10 because the IC was blown and a Heath VFO with a badly cracked dial for $10. Someone grabbed them in the first 30 minutes and I saw them on the place two days later. They were described as being a long term part of their collection that worked well and the hated to part with. Fully tested, no faults blah blah blah....

Greetings,

While I'm all in favor of a free market system, I also believe even more so in
buyer beware. Look at item 300463606665 and at the unmentionable place. A
friend of mine sold it at Boxboro. I had looked at it and the restoration work
he had done. This is the same radio. Nothing has been reworked buy
the seller other than a possible alingment and his superior tube testing. It
is exactly as rebuilt buy the previous owner. I should know as I considered
buying it! Anyone have any dealings with him? Perhaps he is a Martyn clone?
His ad copy rivals his! Neither I nor the previous owner have any grudge
against someone trying to make a buck reselling something but if you take credit
for anothers work, how can you be trusted in other matters? The HQ-170 he is
selling came from the same seller at Boxboro. I will note that he makes no
similar claims on that item. For your digestion and decision but thought it
worth passing it on.
