I've about given-up on any "gun" soldering tool.
Not only do the tips wear out fast; more frustrating to me
is having to loosen and re-tighten the screws that hold the tip
every other joint because the copper-screw connection oxidizes
and the tip won't heat.... GRRR!  Guess I could spend a bunch of
money and have the pieces gold plated?  Naaaa....
I found a big frame iron at a yard sale.  Might be a little
unwieldy, but it never fails.
