[Boatanchors] Carbon Mics

There was a discussion a month or two ago about carbon mics on one of these
lists and, of course, I can’t remember which. OTOH, it can’t hurt to try
all three for what I have in my evil little mind.

What I would like to find is something like an old candlestick phone sans
dial and receiver or the arm and mic from a wooden wall phone.
Reproductions work as well. Alternatively, the drawings for them would be
cool so I can make something that looks like one instead, or the pieces
parts to make at least the mic head and I can get creative with the rest
according to what I have laying about. The end result remains the same.

Goodwill has been no help. The various online sites have candlestick
reproductions but even the bad ones are outrageously priced. Apparently
they’re popular with someone because the prices are something only interior
decorators might like.

These are part of the madness planned for 1930s style [suppressed carrier]
phone transmitters with the idea that your basic “po’ boy impoverished
Depression Era ham” (PBIDEH) may well resort to repurposing such things to
make a desk mic of sorts. By the way, this selfsame PBIDEH is responsible
for most of my 1930s concepts and ideas and is kind of a collective of my
mentors 50+ years ago. I just hope I can do them proud.

Best regards,
