Good choice, Chuck. Might not be a totally futile effort on here, but
I'd warn you to be very leery of condition vs price as they are not
cheap to fix. I've seen them bring an average of $800-$1500 depending
on condition. Expect a cheap example to cost around $500 or more to
repair and upgrade, depending how much damage it has to the body,
screens, and ribbon. I've got a 77D that was a wedding gift from my
best man WA2PJP, which he had completely restored by Clarence Kane.
Eventually it'll be running through a 116 equalizer, 26W limiter, and
212A console to a 300G transmitter.
If you don't turn one up soon, you might want to drop Darren at Big D
Broadcast Exchange a note to see what he has. Darren was trained by
Clarence Kane of ENAK Microphone. Clarence is an old school fellow,
was a mic repair tech for RCA back in the 50s. I thought he'd retired,
but he was still rebuilding mics as of September. Either of these guys
can hep you out with repairs, and Darren sometimes has rebuildable or
rebuilt mics for sale.
Clarence's site is http://www.enakmic.com/
Darren's site is: http://www.bigdmc.com/
You'll need a bit of processing between the mic and transmitter of
course, but I suspect you're well aware of that.
Happy hunting -
