It started that way but after WW2 they started talking back. I remember the
Nassau County police used the 1.7mc area in the mid 50's and they didnt have
any call boxes as did the city areas.With just short length of wire on an
old wood table radio I didnt hear the cars that often but the base
transmitter was just 2 towns away.
