[Boatanchors] SI units and the rest

I am NOT sue which "Bob" is being referred to.
My entire piece of the discussion was to point to the authoritative
reference to SI units.
Personally, I got my BSEE at Auburn University, and my BS Computer
Science at Park University. The latter is "rather" new, being
"Established" approximately 1875 from my old brain cell recollections.
I've lived through the multitude of "Standard" *cluster* of
measurements. Furlongs, Fortnights, pounds, grams, meters, seconds, and
even the newer SI things.
My test equipment goes back to the '40s, '50s, '60s, '70s, and recently
a "new" addition of a 21st Century Digital Multimeter that also measure
capacitance.
We are held hostage to the antiquated "platinum" bar held in France to
determine "what" a kilogram is, and "derive" the unit called the "gram"
from this *item*.
If this post is NOT directed at myself, then I leave things as they were.
I personally have spent about ten days in Christ Church for R&R coming
off the "Ice" at McMurdo Station, Antarctica. I also spent about 12
hours in Auckland, during a crew layover, refueling, cleaning, and
replenishment of the aircraft's consumables. That was for my trip to
McMurdo Station. (I had the "fortune" or "misfortune" to winter over in
Antarctica.)
I have found units of measurement to be more an "Academic" exercise,
rather than something useful to *MY* everyday life. I may have only
been around for 60 1/2 years, so I may be a "bit" settled in my view.
I go to my local and area "Emporiums" for food, building supplies,
electronics, and miscellaneous things needed.
Being an American, the vast majority of measurements are still feet,
pounds, and such. I only deal with SI units when dealing with "some"
new electronic parts. However my "old" Western Electric, (Made By
Hickok.) tube tester still reads in mhos. I deal with micro, pico, and
nano, when I fire up a '70s oscilloscope.
Most of all, I do NOT do POLITICS! I've been to entirely TOO many
places in the world, have experienced their government as it impacted me
during *MY* travels and stays. I've always been happiest here in
America. I have NO axe to grind with ANY country. I simply spent my
time serving MY country.
Enjoy the hobby!
It doesn't matter one little lick how it gets measured to contact each
other by an old radio!
