Except that a Volt could have always been called "J/C". The volt can be
defined as one joule per coulomb of charge. So just as we called Hz as C/S
(cycles per second)! So naming the this J/C for Alessandro Volta doesnt
sound much different than naming c/s after Hertz.

interested in this discussion!)

In creating a new unit, I can understand this but renaming one that has been
around for longer than any of us have been alive is simply change for the
sake of change. If they wanted to honor Hertz, they should have used his
name for a new unit or law, not rename a preexisting one. Otherwise, it's
like changing a street name to one of a local politician - change for the
sake of change.
