[Boatanchors] WTB: Xtals (even mHz)

Yep, that was me involved in the tube testing. It was for the Hickok 752A 
and the guy who started it rolling wanted a group who had them in known 
calibration. Id done mine about 10 years earlier and rechecked it for the 
test, it was still spot on.

He then sent out a used metal 6L6 and 6SK7 that was tested, data recorded 
and daisy chained to the next guy. There were a dozen if I remember in all 
parts of the USA and one Canadian.

He than took the logs and ran a spreadsheet and amazingly they were all very 
close and the majority about in a 5% cluster.  That was a couple of years 
ago.

It quickly shut up many who said it couldnt be done cuz Hickoks gave 
unreliable readings.

It didnt require any custom blessed on the audiophools altar tube either. 
The 6L6 was even rusty!

Isn't it interesting how they know all the answers but haven't a clue what
all the questions are?

I've run into a few who used the correct units (i.e., KC & MC) but they got
their degrees the hard way, by actually working in the field while they went
to school.  The ones who couldn't be bothered with such mundane things were
also the ones who were as you described.

This probably came about because some of the new hires weren't getting their
way and pouted off to their supervisors who finally got tired of the
complaints and shoved it up the ladder.  I wonder how many of those kids got
taken off the bench and assigned to "fixing" docs written by the old timers.

Exactly, and one of the big reasons I especially can't see the use of Hz
here or in glowbugs.  They just don't fit the equipment.

BTW: Were you the one who mentioned passing a set of tubes around to other
Hickok owners to check the calibration on the tube testers?  I'm working on
a blog entry regarding audiophools and I want to get that right.  :-)
