The company I was working for in 1961 hires a big shot Stanford FOOTBALL
STAR!. He was an EE graduate. He came in the lab one day and sat his butt up
on the bench. He found out "WHAT A SOLDERING IORN" was! He went to
marketing!

I was at National when the transition took place. The fresh out of school
techs and EE's showed their virgin knowledge by using the metric crap. The
Piled Higher and Deeper types who couldnt find the correct end of a
soldering iron did the same as they were Oh So PC to kiss European a**.

The old timers, and especially with a military backround, stayed with
cycles. An edict eventually came down from on high that all documentation
will be in the new format.

I was chatting with an old Brit CW radio op on 160 SSB the other day (he is
now a VE3) and he still used the old way and I fell right in with it. You
simply cant discuss a HRO, Eddystone, Model 19, or other sets of the era any
other way.

Get what right?

First off, I'm 65 years old and the SI system is only 60 years old. I'm
older so I go by my rules, not those of some folks who think naming a
recurring event after some old dead person is better.

Second, every radio I have germane to this group is calibrated in KC or MC
or their lower case counterparts. Shall I paint over that and re-mark the
panels to suit what's in style now? I don't think so and as long as they're
calibrated thus, I'm going to continue to use the older units. When I'm
discussing newer equipment, I *may* use Hz (I'm fairly consistent in doing
so regarding computers.) or I may confuse everyone by sticking with MC and
KC.

Third, do we talk about sun spot Hertz? Do we re-Hertz? Nope. Let's be
consistent then and just rent cars & trucks from Hertz.

Fourth, this is NOT a personal attack, it is one on a system gone stupid.
Change for the sake of change is not good and that's all using Hz in place
of cps is - change for the sake of change.

And finally, anyone incapable of handling this is more than welcome to note
the mistletoe hanging from my shirt tail.

Best regards,

Michael, WH7HG BL01xh
