[Boatanchors] WTB: Xtals (even mHz)

Not to worry, Bob.

For quite awhile longer than it should have taken,
I was using KHz for kilohertz until some OTHER
smartypants cleared up that error on MY part.

Oh I don't question SI Mac.

In college, many many years ago,(more than I want to admit) we all had to learn the correct SI language. Or our prof got really upset. And I do seem to remember the capital M and m being like you say. Just forgot it.

Also, I was just adding another method that has been taught. Not that it's correct. HI. But it may explain why some used the lower case m.

So, I will do MHz from now on... okey dokey? And thanks for letting us know so we can avoid being incorrect. :-)

Not correct. Metric prefixes signifying GREATER than
the basic unit are normally capitalized. Those that
signify that the unit is SMALLER than the basic unit
are lower case.

With frequency, there is a difference with kilohertz
because the upper case "K" has already been assigned
to Kelvin temperature where any K temperature is
referenced to 0 degrees K which is ABSOLUTE ZERO
(- 273 Celsius).

That's the reason for the apparent anomaly where the
convention is MHz for megahertz and kHz for kilohertz.

If there were an actual unit "mHz" would it signify
one cycle every 1000 seconds? HAR!

However, I was taught that since Hertz is a proper name, that it, and only it, should be capitalized. Hence, mHz or kHz.Oh well, who am I to questions SI's. Why would you want crystals in the sub audible range??
They make really nifty paper weights. In the mean time, I'm going to ride my by-Hertzover to the junk box and see if I can find anyof those crystals.
