I picked up one of these last year and finally got it on the bench to work on.
The previous owner had tightened all the loose screws, so it took a while to
get it operational. It covers 2 - 32 MHz in 4 Bands, AM, CW, MCW and RTTY
(RTTY operation requires an internal Frequency Shift Converter, which is NOT
included).
It operates off 28 vdc or 115 vac, the Power Connector and the Audio Connector
are included.
Think of this receiver as an R-392 clone, but no-where near as good. A prime
example of Fiscal Waste. No way the Navy buys an Army Receiver !! Better to
spend several millions on developing a new one.
The Receiver does work, but needs further alignment to get it to meet spec.
Unfortunately, some of the adjustments cannot be reached unless the module
is removed from the Receiver, which require extender cables that I do not
have. Since the connectors are Amphenol Blue Ribbon (or a look-alike) and
push-on coax, a cable could be fabricated, but not by me.
The unit is microphonic, hitting the case exhibits the effect quite well. It seems
this is a common trait and fixes are available. I will supply whatever info I have
found.
Included is a copy of the pertinent parts of the MRC-55 Manual as they apply
to the R-808.
Preference will be given to those willing to pick up the Receiver. Due to the
weight (~70# I estimate), shipping will be on the order of $100 +/-.
I expect this Receiver will be of more interest to the collector than to the user.
It had only one production run as far as I can tell.
I am up for trades (most anything that would interest me) or I will entertain
offers on it. Keep in mind the shipping cost.
