More downsizing. Are there any of you into re-building tube audio power amps? I have two of the most unique power amp chassis I have ever run across. The chassis are std rack mount. Occupy about 12" of rack space. You must see pics to understand the uniqueness of these. The string of tubes are mounted on a swing down front sub chassis so tubes are verticle display. The sub chassis swings down to reveal all the circuit & test points. Transformers & filters are mounted on back chassis & are behind so not seen from front. There is a "balance" meter on that swing down sub chassis. These chassis would be perfect to build, for example, a KT88 Williamson amp. Originally I was going to strip these out, find a designed circuit, find a paint scheme for the chassis to make them attractive, or have them chromed, than mount new everything. The finished amp pair would be the center of my equipment rack.
These amps came out of a drive in theater, used as I understand as drivers for bigger power amps. They are RCA MI-9858As. They can be restored as is. One did work some what. I have the docs for these also. The amps are complete & chassis are in very good condition, no rust or serious metal damage. But everything needs restoring. They are heavy so shipping is not practical. I hate to see them go to the dumpster!!
