Fun to operate, too. Steve WB3HUZ and myself got to use them a bit
while visiting last week before NEAR-Fest.

He mentioned that the Apache, Mohawk, and Warrior came from a
collector in CA who found them in a closet unused for decades.
Apparently some errors in assembly meant they never worked from the
start which is why they ended up in the closet. He replaced all old
and out-of-spec components with new stock, and corrected the
shortcomings (mainly in the Mohawk) to improve the reliability and
overall utility. For example, the Mohawk audio sounds crisp and clean,
easy to listen to on AM or SSB without the usual AGC-induced
distortion. And amazingly - the S-meter actually reads signals.
Accurately, too! He used the circuit from the 75A-4 including a pot
which he mounted on the chassis with a small bracket. No extra holes,
and Joe's usual impeccable workmanship.

So they work as well as they look. Inspiring to those of us with green
injuns in the wings.
