[Boatanchors] Archive search and Cleaning knobs

I must be missing something. How does one search the archives? It appears that each month is g-zipped, and that to do a search I must go to each month, unzip, search, then move on to the next month, repeat, etc.

Is there some simpler more efficient way to just search the entire archive all at once?

For example: I seem to recall discussions on how to clean the knobs and would like to review those articles. But it seems like it is far easier to just re-ask the question (and be inundated with comments about how it's already been discussed and to just search the archives) than to search several years of archives one month at a time.

Please help!!! What am I missing????
