[Boatanchors] A Hammarlund question

Al,
If you look at the schematic for the Scott All-Wave 23, introduced in 1936, you'll find it's very similar to the Super Pro. It has 2 TRF stages and 4 IF stages, with seperate AVC for each. I always wondered if one copied the other's work. Therefore, I don't know if the Super Pro could "easily outperform" the Scott, as they are pretty much the same in the front end. Of course, the Scott is a home entertainment set, and the Super Pro is a communications receiver.....the Scott has no BFO, but does have variable selectivity. A correctly restored and aligned AW-23 is indeed a very good receiver.

Hi Gerry,
Almost certainly not a Hammarlund standard product. There was a
Super-Pro Console SP-150, but that was one speaker and no turntable.
The eight 45's also doesn't make a lot of sense as the Super-Pro's
already had a 14-watt amplifier. The Super-Pro was not introduced until
1936. The only earlier Hammarlund communications receiver was the
Comet-Pro. Bigger amp there might make sense there if you were building
a custom setup.
The Super-Pro has a variable selectivity IF that you can open up to 12
KHz and is a really good sounding receiver. It would be my choice for a
no-holds-barred custom setup in the 1930's. Could easily outperform a
Scott.
You can get a look at this stuff on my site:
