[Boatanchors] [Milsurplus] Should I really go ahead and buy this? Will it help?

Michael,
I was present and active in the planning/design of a new public safety building here in Indianapolis a few years back, and the whole place is ran on UPS. The UPS is so big that it takes up a huge room. It serves as a buffer so that the radio console equipment doesn't get bombed out by lightning all the time. A radio station that I worked at once had the whole studio ran off of a large UPS. So, it looks like, for the ultimate in audiophoolery, one would need a whole house UPS. The power supply for the amp would also use two WE rectifier tubes (274s, I believe) that run about $1000 each on the auction place, as to bring out the "nuances" in the discriminating listener's system.
'Reminds me of an episode of South Park where the people that drove hybrids were so smug and self absorbed that they loved the smell of their own flatulence.
73,
Alex

Good grief! That is just plain ridiculous!
It's also invalid. With a proper preparation of the base material (edge
treatment, polishing et al), electroplating is *the* way to go because it IS
uniform. At the same time, it doesn't take a lot to wipe off a shoddy
plating job on the first or second plug insertion/removal cycle and there's
nothing to indicate to me that it wouldn't be any better than second rate.
Maybe third.
And, as has been mentioned by another, what about the house wiring. Or, for
that matter, everything going right back to the power plant including the
power plant itself? Why has no one decided that what's needed is a
stabilized, regulated, gold plated, made from the purest oxygen free copper
sine wave line isolator of the UPS sort so the building power is merely
maintaining the internal batteries rather than actually supplying power to
the system. That way the whole system is independent of the wall socket
except as noted. Of course, a whole new battery technology would be needed
(fuel cells?) since even Lithium wouldn't be good enough.
Gotta love 'em.

Michael, WH7HG BL01xh
