Given the fact that both the SX-73 and the HT-20 approach milspec construction, I think you're right - the SX-73 would be a better match to the HT-20.

And yep, the HT-31 does have that tall front panel.  So does the SX-73.  Curiously, the HT-30 is the size of a SX-100.  Got one a them, too!

Yep, it has an unusually high cabinet and I'm not sure if it's unique to the HT-20 or not.

That's one Hallicrafters that's near mil-spec in construction, unlike their decidedly lower-rent efforts of the fifties.

I was gonna get it on the air when i was back home at xmas but never got around to it... I do know it works FB into a dummy load!

HT-31 is the amp I was thinking of, never seen one so it must be as scarce or moreso than the HT-20. Uses the same dial bezel and crank knob, too. Dachis' book says the HT-30 is the companion transmitter, but it sure would go nicely with the HT-20 if painted differently. But it doesn't bode well for finding a cabinet.

I know you have the -88 with yours too Johnny, but in retrospect I wonder if the SX-73 wasn't a better choice? Or would've been if they'd made a true civilian version. Similar size and same bullet-proof construction as the HT-20, pop it into the same cabinet and viola - kick-ass station without the fluff.

Looking forward to working you on yours when you get back this way. Gotta run up to Steve's to get the HV meter shunt for my transmitter, then it's back on the air. Everything else checks out okayfine (so far).
