[Boatanchors] HRO-50T, odd response

Restoring one from the ground up.

With the BFO off, selectivity off (xtal filter out of circuit), DC coupled
probe at detector o/p:
  - CW input gives single peak of reasonable width
  - 1kHz AM input gives two peaks with a pronounced null between them

There are only 3 IFTs (counting the xtal filter unit) in the IF strip. I
don't understand how
anything can be narrow-band enough to do this, unless perhaps an IF stage is
at the
edge of regeneration. What's going on?
