Why not?  
Someone's taxes have to pay the bills to preserve a place like that.
The American public demonstrated that they cared a lot more about
the latest television sitcoms than they did about landing on the Moon,
and still do.
Afterall- they have Captain Kirk and Mr. Spock already; 
how could futzzing-around on a barren rock like the Moon
compete with that?   Apollo may go to dust and ashes, but re-runs 
of  "Three's Company?"   We'll build a shrine to them fit for the ages.
