His target acquisition is amazing, Michael. He's pretty quick too, for
an old(er) guy.
** Watch it sonny, your treading on thin ice.....
So when hamfesting, it's always good to know if Carl
is in the vicinity. Not unlike the phrase "the quick and the dead".
** Youre learning
We do have a bit of fun with him in the 'recognition' dept, though. At
the last two NEAR-Fests he's asked as where Tom K1JJ, legendary AMer
of the northeast was, if we'd seen him or not. The first time he was
standing next to Carl and let him go on for a while before saying
something like "I'm right here, Carl". It was a cold day though, and
we were all bundled up, so.....
Last spring was more entertaining as Tom had a chat with Carl about
'that K1JJ guy' for a few minutes before Carl got suspicious. Tom has
been AWOL a lot in recent years, so Carl isn't the only one he got
that day.
** The problem is that Tom is always in disguise. First the cold weather
gear in warm weather and his Hermans Hermits hairdo this year! I wont get
caught again.....
Carl's got me in most other areas, and I'll never catch him in the
radio knowledge department, so I gotta have my fun where I can!
** Except when JN is on the loose youre one of the few others that is
seriously active into the old gear Todd....correct? JN didnt forgive me
until he found his own NBS-1!! You already know everything that is there
before I wander in after a full beauty rest, a leisurely breakfast, and a
sedate 1+ hour back roads trip checking out yard sales. Then on Saturday
with a second load in the car I wander up to the Maine coast (York Beach),
meet family and pig out on lobster and the works. I love those weekends.
