Sounds familiar, John.  Years ago a buddy and I had cleaned out a 
basement and went to a hamfest in Wisconsin with a vanload of "under the 
table boxes".  Included in the mess was an Eico 460 o'scope, an old 
reel-to-reel tape recorder and others junk.  This kid, maybe 12-13 years 
old kept coming back and looking thru the stuff and after I found out 
that he was really nuts about electronics we started loading him up.  I 
remember cutting off the AC cord on the scope because it was ratty and 
going through with him how to replace it, the dangers of high voltage, 
etc.  The tape recorder and I don't know how many boxes went his way 
before the day was done.

As we were leaving the hamfest there was a funny sight in front of the 
building...the kid's dad had just pulled up and was having a 
conversation with him about the HUGE pile of stuff he'd acquired.  
Evidently we weren't the only one ones who took advantage of his 
enthusiasm to get rid of some of our e-debris!   So yeah, probably 
better to get the parent's on board, but I still bet in the end this kid 
managed to get the whole pile home ; -)
