Joe,
Is your oscillator tracking on band 4 OK? If so, attempts to improve the calibration across band 3 by bending the outer capacitor plates will throw you off on that band. I would probably accept the 100 to 200 Khz. calibration error as acceptable unless you are willing to spend a lot of time going through the alignment over and over for the various bands if you try to adjust the capacitor plates.
Do be sure that the capacitor is properly indexed to the dial and that the rotor plates are centered within the stator plates.

Well, guys, I have a lot of progress.
As many of you pointed out, my dial-tracking problem came about because I had the LO misaligned below frequency. When I changed it to 455 khz above frequency, the tracking fell into line. The best I can do, however, on Band 3 is WWV at 10.2 mhz and 4.9 mhz. Any ideas?
A larger cap (.02) off the audio-gain control took care of the motorboating. However, I have to check the audio gain further. I suspect it's a replacement, possibly of the wrong value and wrong taper.
All paper caps and 'lytics have been replaced. Tweaking the RF alignment on Band 3 has increased sensitivity nicely.
I'm still not sure if this is: (a) a souped-up AR-88; (b) another model; (c) a prototype or (d) none of the above. For every clue that points in one direction, there is an offsetting clue pointing in another direction.
Joe Connor
