Thanks for all the good advice on my line-cord question.

I shall follow through with the changes and the additional caps.

I've got the unit running right now in the next room with a tape from when I 
was much, much younger.

Sounds good!  I've got it hooked to a single, old-but-good speaker, the 
Tannoy Cheviot.

The amp is rated at 50 watts, with four 6L6Gs in parallel, mono of course. A 
stamp on the chassis says it was manufactured in 1945.  Sounds like more 
than 50 watts.

Why does a tube amp (to me) sound so much quicker and cleaner than SS amps? 
Seems to have more dynamic range, too.
