Subject: [Boatanchors] Off Topic...?? possible RF interference We have a
large problem in our area, being basically agricultural. Farmers with GPS
guidance systems, electronic steering and platform controls on combines
using their 40W VHF and UHF radios. It can cause havoc with the systems
when they key mic if not properly installed with good lead dress, and
antenna ground bonding and placement.

Also reminds me of story many years ago with Missouri governor's car. Had a
new limo (? Brand), ABS had just come out. They had installed a completely
new radio system with IMTS mobile phone etc. (pre-cellular) It had a 100W
Motorola Motrac on Low Band. Seems they were tooling down I-70 at normal
highway speeds and used the radio. Wham, the brakes locked on and car went
into skid into median strip. It got investigated pretty good. Got it
fixed.

Has anybody else been wondering about this or have any specific information
about how well protected those systems are from external Electro Magnetic
radiation?

Maybe the highway patrol should vehicles should be outfitted with high power
spark gap transmitters to disable cars during high speed chases?? :-(

What are your thoughts?
