If you smoke the pot will the audio become slow and slurred? Will there be
a strong odor in the shack?

It may be possible to repair the original pot. Where cleaners and solvents
have failed, I've fixed worn pots by bending the wiper slightly to contact
an unworn area of the resistance element. Among other situations, this
worked well to restore correct operation to a friend's car - engine trouble
was caused by airflow sensor resistance element wear (airflow sensor is a
spring loaded vane mechanically coupled to a pot's shaft).
Of course, if you have a circuit failure and end up smoking the pot, all
bets are off. Woe be to he who smokes pot!
