[Boatanchors] Question

Some glass tubes for RF such as 6BA6, 6AU6 have a round electrode at the bottom.
You can see it if you look at the bottom of the tube.
It needs be grounded through a capacitance  to the center post in the tube socket.
This is what my understanding has been for the last 40 years with tubes.

While rebuilding several old rigs and test equipment I have noticed that the 
instructions say to ground the center post of the 7 or 9 pin tube sockets.

Is there any reason for this other than a convenient point to route the 
ground wire(s)?

Any thoughts????
