[Boatanchors] auction time linked to what timing source?

I guess I don't understand. If there is one or two or more bidders using a
snipe program and or service how is by my bidding what something is worth to
me a day or two early going to drive up the price ?
For example if the sniper(s) are willing to bid $200 and I'm willing to bid
$300. I put in my max bid of $300 at day minus 2 ?
