Here's a story told in tech school:
By way of background,I attended Electronic Technical Institute,Denver CO, in the late '70's.The school had several programs for tech certs one of which was "consumer electronics" which taught TV,Phono,Radio,Whatever repair. The current class would work on various products brought in by customers who only had to pay for the parts, labor was grattis.
Well, the story goes:Mr. X brought in his brand new Heathkit Color TV because after dillegently building it,it did not work at all.
Mr.X failed to follow the most important part of the manual and that was the soldering instructions.Mr. X had taken a short cut and used something called "Solder in a Tube", a silvery substance squeezed out of a tube.( I believe this stuff was intended for artists to do stained glass artwork without the danger of soldering lead tape).
Needless to say,Mr. X's TV was returned to him as unrepairable.

On the other hand, "Ablestik" makes very high quality silver epoxy(s) used in the electronics industry for die attach and other attachment processes that are needed when eutecktic (solder pre-form or solder ball dispense and re-flow) attach is not warrented.

My $0.025 worth....but you had to hear the teacher tell the story....!

Subject: [Boatanchors] SOLDER-IT

Just wondering if anyone has used the solder-it silver and aluminum
aste. I was thinking of trying it but I happened to have a tube of RS
ilver paste so I gave it a try. Not really sure if I have a use for
uch a thing. It did not produce a good joint like I expected. I used
he instructions that comes with solder-it, first applying the paste
nd then heating it from the other side of the contact. It looked kind
f hokey to me, not shiny or even close.
Anyway, let me know your opinions and experience.
