My experience with CFL's is not nearly as extensive as some on here but I've 
found
the 99 cent variety to have a harsh light, take a couple of seconds to 
ignite and to
sometimes fail within a year.  Had much better luck with the GE brand sold 
by
Wal Mart.  These ignite almost instantaneously, have a pleasant glow and 
thus far
after a year, no failures (yet).  I've not noticed any RFI.
