[Boatanchors] De-chirping a Globe Chief Deluxe?

I'm not sure, but believe the "deluxe" uses the 6AG7/dual 807 arrangement?  My Scout 680 uses a 6V6 driving a 6146 and it chirped badly until I replace the grid circuit voltage-divider caps and all of the b+ bypass caps ( found two confirmed "open", so just replaced all of them). 



I'd expect the 6AG7 would behave better than the 6V6 ( at least according to an old QST article on the subject ). 

BTW if your crystal is an FT243 case with an HCU49 inside, that won't work at all ( ask me how I know ).  I find driving any of these old novice rigs with an Eico 722 VFO produces a cleaner signal than using a crystal ( yes even a REAL FT243 ).
