I just made sure that there will not be appreciable snow in Burke, VA this winter. Went out and bought a 30 inch John Deere snow thrower. It wouldn't dare! It will probably become very expensive insurance like the 20KW Cummins generator I got a couple of years ago. We have not had anything more than nuicance power outages since, most times not even long enough for the plant to start up. BTW, I did pick up a couple of new snow shovels for the nuisance flurries.
73 and stay warm,
John, W4AWM

Heck,
I had a choice of simply taking my next, (read retirement), duty station.
Uncle Sam chose, (I'm trying to remember which of the two it was - 26
rs back!), either Ft. Sill, OK, or Ft. Bliss, TX.
I had tutored a WO-4 from personnel through a college class, at the
nstructor's "behest".
The WO-4 looked at my orders and asked if there was a different place
'd rather go.
So I chose the Washington, D.C. Metro area. The reason being simple. I
KNEW* I could find work with my education and background, in this
eographic area.
Another factor is simply that the wife, myself, and the kids prefer cool
nd cold over heat.
I can ALWAYS put another log on the fire, put on a heavy Turkish Robe,
r bump the thermostat!
When it gets too hot, (What did it get up to in Ca this year for a day
r so?), you can only take off so much before they arrest you!
I'll shovel the %$&#* SNOW!
