I would like to thank all who replied to my call for advice. Interestingly, there were no significant conflicts in the hints on how to handle the -101A. This baby has been a mainstay in my shack for many years, having enabled me to work many a DX station, and of course tons of locals. After the fixes I am sure it will keep doing so for years to come, unlike the throw-away radios of today.
