That's the thing that puzzles me too, Larry. Warren's point is a good
one from a promotional perspective. The problem becomes - when does
the internet side go from being a helpful aid that encourages and
promotes the restoration and use, to a replacement and promotional
tool for self?

We see it some on AMfone.net, where the vast majority of folks come in
to ask questions, offer help, maybe post a photo or two. Over time the
site has developed a few who choose to live online rather than getting
on the air, as well as a handful who see it as a way to promote their
collections and selves above all else. There's even a guy who promotes
joining nets via Skype. Kinda defeats the whole 'radio' side of old
radios.

My thought has always been that an informational site is good, so long
as it's helpful in some way to the actual cause at hand. If you need
to have an aid to an aid, you're probably spending too much time
online and not enough time on the air, IMO. Or trying to find new ways
to draw attention to yourself. Either way, it loses sight of the
original purpose behind these sites and lists: to promote and enhance
the experience, not replace it.
