Made even worse by the fact that those spinner knobs use a much
smaller screw than the regular knobs use - maybe the smallest Bristo
screw used, even.

And if epoxy runs a risk of getting into the threads, so does a drill
bit spinning at however many RPMs. If the damage isn't too bad, you
can probably re-tap the brass insert fairly easily.

I've also had luck going the route Dave mentioned, the small jeweler's
screwdriver wedged into what's left of the hole in the head.

Something else to keep in mind: since the knob is already off the
shaft, you have the option and benefit of continuing to turn the screw
in rather than trying to back it out through dirty or damaged threads.
I'd give it a little WD40, CaiLube, whatever you have on hand that
will lubricate and loosen without damaging the bakelite, then work a
jeweler's screwdriver into the head. If the head is chewed up badly
from trying to loosen it, perhaps there's still enough bite turning CW
to crank it through.
