Subject: Re: [Boatanchors] Interesting Microphone on eBay
The proper grill for this mic is convex and not flat(!),
maybe half a
ping pong ball as an example. And the base he has it hooked
to is
nothing but a part of a ceiling or wall light fixture. The
bottom of
the mic portion with the switch would actually screw onto a
threaded
nipple (really) on a stand like an Atlas table or floor
stand.
But you gotta give him high marks on creative advertising.
Just look
how many people here he's gotten to comment on a pieced
together pile
of parts.

I sent a message about this but I don't see it. The mic
had a grill that carried out the finned design theme i a
sort of swirled ribbon pattern. The grill on this mic is
probably from an Astatic Velvet Voice mic, a much later
model. I thought at first the base was one made by American
Microphone but a look at the catalogue illustrations shows
it isn't. I am not sure what it is, perhaps part of a lamp
base. In any case I would be very suspicious of the
mechanism of something so cobbled together. Evidently the
auction ended without a sale. That's fine because IMO it was
fraudulent.
