[Boatanchors] Computer help needed

I have been trying for over a week to solve this problem and so far have not come up with a solution:

I have a HP 6318f machine which is a x64 based machine that came with Windows 7.

I want to add a second HDD (SATA - same as the original drive) and install Win XP x64 on it so I can dual boot to both OP systems.

The original BIOS setting is AHCI; the second drive will not boot unless I set the BIOS to IDE. When the BIOS is set to IDE then the first drive will not boot!

Both of the drives are Western Digital and both are SATA. WD is NO help.

So, how the heck do I get the computer to see both drives as SATA?
