[Boatanchors] ARR-41 Power Supply Question

Dick,

The ARR-41 is a relatively rare military surplus receiver, and it's worth
more when it's unhacked, the dynamotor by itself is worth almost as much as
the receiver, because unfortunately for some unexplained reason people are
reluctant to use 24 VDC to feed the dynamotor; in many otherwise good
ARR-41's the dynamotor is missing. For those of us, who cherish military
surplus the way the designers and the original end users intended, it's
important to have the units complete and original. If you're getting rid of
the dynamotor (thereby reducing both the intrinsic and monetary value of the
receiver but it's yours to do whatever you wish...) you can get a fair
amount of money for it, either by offering it to the "milsurplus" list
members, or most likely, more money on ebay. I'm not an interested party in
this, as I don't have an ARR-41 receiver but I know of people who are trying
to get their unit back to "normal". Just for example, a BC-348 dynamotor is
worth almost as much as a ruined -hmmm... "modified" BC-348. I just restored
one from the AC hack to nice, 24VDC operation. It's a pleasure to hear the
faint, reassuring hum (which is not louder that the normal receiver noise)
of the well-maintained dynamotor...

Subject: [Boatanchors] ARR-41 Power Supply Question

I can see where that dynamotor could get on ones nerves after
a while !! I was thinking about replacing it with an AC supply.

Has anyone done this ? Was it worth the effort ?? It looks like
I could remove the dyno from the chassis and use it for the supply.

Thanks, Dick, W1KSZ
