I'll hazard a guess that the set was used for its power level, SSB,
and compact size, and may have been set up prior to the flight for one
frequency. Keep in mind that, although the R-390 family of receivers
covered from the bottom of the BCB to 30 mcs, most were set on one
frequency for long periods of time and left there.
If the book turns up tonight, I'll post whatever info is in there
about it. I recall one very clear shot of the cockpit showing the
KWM-1 sitting right up behind the seat facing forward. No recollection
of any mention of mirrors.
