Bob,
I use the Best Buy house brand speakers and they look and sound great with
all my ICOM rigs: IC-703+, IC-7000, IC-746Pro, IC-756ProII and IC-756ProIII.
They also sound great on my stereo and can be used both indoors and
outdoors.

Here are the details

Insignia brand 3-Way Indoor/Outdoor Speakers

Model IS-SP3WAY

Speakers, wires, brackets

40 W per channel

90Hz - 20kHz

AND THE BEST PART.they sell for around $35 for a pair and come with all
sorts of mounting options, hardware, pads and brackets!

I think you'll love them!

Thanks & 73,

Subject: [Boatanchors] Source of full-range speakers

I know I'm not alone in realizing that it's getting hard to find
full-range speakers. There are lots of nice looking woofers in the
10-15" range but in some cases there's no room to add a tweeter.
Flipping through the latest catalog from MCM Electronics I found three
8" speakers priced around $14 each. They're intended for PA service but
cover the full audio range and should sound pretty decent for
communications purposes:

555-6390 - 8" cone with concentric 2" tweeter and 10 watt transformer
555-6386 - 8" two-way with cloth surround, concentric 2" tweeter,
transformer optional for a few bucks more
555-6381 - 8" dual-cone with transformer

The transformer is the standard 70.7 volt type for commercial sound
systems where the 10 watt tap also provides a good impedance match to
600 ohm outputs. Of course you can just bypass the transformer for
direct connection to the voice coil. MCM has lots of other goodies of
possible interest too.
