Tom,
Wow! You sure brought back some scary childhood memories!
My barber (1940's - 50's) was much the same; straight razor, hand-powered clippers, etc.
As I rmember the tremors diminshed as the razor approached the face, but never
seemed to entirely stop. He also used the hot towel pre-shave method and the
shelves over the sink held the shaving soap mugs for many of his clients. When he
retired he gave me my dad's and grandfathers mugs.
When I became a teenager, I decided to try a younger barber - felt a lot safer, too.
I have "essential tremors" as well, and soldering sessions can be interesting around here!
