Hi, although I have suggested it b4, here is an idea that makes a
wonderful tube puller, especially for those tubes in restricted
spaces....
Go to any 'good' auto parts store and buy a "Spark Plug Wire
Puller".... These are used to pull boots off of spark plugs on modern
cars. (where you can't even SEE the boot!!" ha ha
They are cheap, plastic covered, and will fit into very tight spots.

Something that might work to grip the tube if you use an arrangement
like Dave
Brown said, i have here one of those flexible rubber grippers that Mom
used in
the kitchen to help loosen up the screw on tops to jars. It's flimsy
but not so
thick that it couldn't be used in one of those metal tubes that has a
slit in
it. Probably need to go to a bit bigger size tubing though. Just cut
it to the
size you need, curl it up with glue on one side and run it inside the
tubing.
Might work and those rubber grippers should be available at about any
kitchen
ware place. Hmmm, have to give that a try myself. I've got a set of
the woven
wire ones but they don't push very well as another list member
mentioned.
I've also got an aluminum with rubber insert type that was used by AT&T
and i'm
sure Ma Bell cause even into the 90's there was a lot of tube based
carrier
systems still in use. I think that maybe the rubber insert may have
hardened a
bit though so it doesn't get a good grip on the tubes when removing
them. Works
great for pushing them into sockets though.
I had a set of the "tong" type until my tool box was stolen about 10-13
years
ago. Sure do miss them.

These are not for a Collins unit but for the Collins "clone" Eldico
R-104
(military second source for the Collins 75S-2).
I need 2 of the middle sized knobs to replace 2 non-original knobs.
They are
made from "pot" metal, have a skirt 1 3/16ths inch diameter, have a
knurled knob
about 3/4ths inch in diameter, and have protrusions on either side of
the
knurled portion.
There are also knobs that do not have a skirt, I don't need those.

Hi Todd & Gang,
To fix tube tongs that have hardened coating get a roll of
Friction Tape and wrap the tongs. Friction Tape (available by that name)
has cloth base covered by black something and is sticky on backside.
Works wonders!

I have had a chance to tear into what's left of the 51J-4 and have
started a
list. I do have xtals, knobs, selectivity linkage, switches and was I
surprised
to find the original alignment tools, still in there holder. For some
unknown
reason, while the rest of this 51J-4 is not all that great, the round
disc dial,
not the drum, is in absolutely beautiful shape. Not faded or yellowed
and all
the numbers are intact. I will try to answer all the requests I have
for parts
as I dig into this unit. If you want any of the above mentioned, email
me
direct.

Hi. These groups have always been a valuable resource in the past, so
I'm keeping my fingers crossed!!!
First, I am in 'serious' need of the following Manuals:n (I have
searched the WWW, NO joy)
1. Exact Instruments Model 528 Log Sweep /Function Generator (User)
2. Krohn-Hite Model 5200A Function Generator (User) (K-H wants $100!!)
3. Biddle Model 110-1 (Catalog No. 655110-1) tdr (have User, need
schematic / service info)
Speaking of the Biddle:
The Biddle is a favorite TDR of mine. I picked it up not too long ago
and did a complete cosmetic refurb. It looks new. I also found 2
electrolytic caps on a board that were NG (spilling brown goo). It
worked perfectly and had a nice sharp pulse and trace. Last Sunday, I
was using it to check the 'fan' dipole I have out in my shop. Things
were FB, until I switched the "Range" switch a couple of times. Now,
all I have is a dot on the left side of the screen. No, there were NO
thunderstorms at the time! ha ha
In addition, I now hear a high pitched 'whine' coming from the
transformer. I suspect this is the hor osc???n I always thought I could
fix 'a rainy day', but it's good to be humbled now and then....
I can move said dot right and left, with the horizontal position knob.
When I switch in the "Gain 5X" switch, I can see a fleeting vertical
trace.
Obviously, (??) I have a Horizontal oscillator / amp problem. However,
the User Manual has NO schematic, voltage checks, etc.
In the past, I have had fair success fixing Tek scopes and TDRs, but
this Biddle, has me baffled. ha ha
I have a collection of 1502 and 1503 Tek TDRs, but I really like this
Biddle, for some reason.
Could anyone be willing to help me get her running again? Repair
source? Yep, I'll actually pay someone to get her working again.
Please help this old f#rt get his 'baby' working again. I do have
'scopes, transistor testers, etc. To be honest, I haven't even done
voltage checks. Without a schematic, I'm lost......
Thank you!!

Gary's recent e-mail caused me to have another one of those annoying
commercial moments:
Based on the R-390A plug-in electrolytic caps that we began selling a
couple of months ago, we've developed a plug-in replacement cap for the
51J-series as well.
The prototype is in service with one of our customers and worked out
well. It is slightly larger in diameter than the original diameter
(by 1/8"). It still has plenty of clearance through the chassis
recess.
There's two different heights/capacitance units for the 51-J - maybe
someone can tell me if one supersedes the other.
They are priced at $32.95 each + S&H. If anyone out there is
interested, please shoot me an e-mail off-list for particulars.
Very 73,

I use a pair of sparkplug wire puller pliers. The ones I use have soft
tips
and grab tubes quite easily. Best part is they are available at any auto
parts store

Hi,
I am looping for a replacement meter for the DX-60B.
Anyone in the list can give me some information of what kind of meters
it is
and were I can buy one similar.
The one I have has the faceplate missing, but I think I can work ( just
one
of you have the plastic faceplate).
Thanks ,
