Glad you got what you were looking for, Harold.  I tend to agree with 
most however I'll add one perspective that always is important to me, 
even though it isn't to everyone.

I collect, restore and use my vintage gear because I enjoy it.   I'm not 
going to try to pull the weakest DX signals out of the noise or operate 
a  hectic contest with 'em, and having to reach up and tweak a knob now 
and then is part of the fun.   There's no doubt the R-390A is "better" 
by most objective criteria, but I love the sound, look and feel of my 
GPR-90/GSB-1 combo, heck I probably would get a "boatanchor rush" if I'd 
sniff the chassis too ;-)    It's a "gestalt" thing ;-)

My point is - there's always subjectivity involved in answering this 
kind of question and in the end, I say go for whatever trips your 
trigger and enjoy the experience of using it.  Worst-case, you'll end up 
making someone else happy at a future hamfest!
