using a VOM with diode tester:
the 2n224 is a PNP,
put the negative lead on the noon lead
then the red on the 9am lead... if good and we are right on the layout
of the leads, then it should read around 200 or 300 ohms.

AND then move the red lead to the 3pm position keeping the black on the
noon lead ... it should read 200 or 300 ohms, not exactly the same as
the other measured, but kinda close... like it could be as much as 30
or
40 ohms difference...

After reading the rest of the messages in the digest I see that nobody
else pointed out the variations in ohm meters. Some have the polarity
reversed from that assumed in this message. You have to know which way
yours is wired. If your black/common lead is actually positive instead
of the red/ohms lead then you need to just transpose the information in
this message which is other wise sound. You are checking the forward to
reverse current of the junctions in the transistor and those readings on
your ohm meter are polarity sensitive by definition.

You can check your ohm meter's polarity by reading the 'terminal
voltage' with another DC voltmeter.
