[Boatanchors] transistor help needed

You may wish to consider the M3 Semiconductor Analyzer. I purchased one
some time back, and it is absolutely fabulous for the experimenter. All
you have to do is hook up the transistor or diode, and it will tell you
which lead is the collector, base, emitter, etc., whether it is a
junction, darlington, FET, triac, unijunction, or thyristor type, the
HFe (gain) and leakage, PNP or NPN, Silicon or Germanium, and lots
more. A truly amazing gadget for a reasonable price (about $72 with
case, in kit form). I used mine to characterize literally thousands of
junk box transistors and diodes so now I know what I have and which to
use in a project. When using a transistor or diode characterized by the
M3, I have never been disappointed by how a former junk-box part worked
in whatever I was building.

No connection with M3 at all, other then being just a very satisfied
customer. BTW, this is the type of gadget that could be shared among a
number of users in a small area, such as among your local radio club
members.
