Actually, I was referring to Greg Bowne (gbowne1 at yahoo.com ) in Seattle. He
has tooled up commercially to make all but one or two of the gears. His raw
stock is in. He has completed the prototypes.
As I understand it, he has sent a set of gears to someone who is to install
them and provide feedback before he runs a truckload (OK - a 1000 or so) of
each.

That feedback, I believe, is to come from me... or at least I'm one of
the people who originally brought up the subject a few months ago... I
can't seem to find the email from the guy who said he would wait until I
moved for me to ship the broken gear to him... I know I kept the
email....buuuuttttt......
(just found one.....so I added it to this email just before sending:
It's from Dave, W5WP offering to possibly make gear in his shop... I
added the whole email BELOW my email)
I recently retired and moved from Florida to Texas. The house selling,
buying and moving plus building a shop in the detached garage has kept
me really busy. I've had to store my boxes of gear until I get the
shop finished... problem is, the boxes are all over the place and some
are hard to get to. XYL has been very gracious about my storing boxes
in the house... :-)
However, I will try to locate the HP 8640B box and take it apart to get
the gear and send it to Greg...
I think it's probably the same gear in all the 8640's...*so if someone
else can send the broken gear to Greg or whoever offered to make new
ones. *My shop won't be done for a month or two or longer... and I don't
have a good place right now to take it apart or work on rigs, etc.
(sure would like to get the replacement gear ready for repair of 8640
though to be able to use it)
Nor do I have "an on the air rig" set up or antennas up yet... wanted
to set it all up in the garage shop (where tower will be) and "do it
right"... with a good ground system and proper entry into shop.... that
could take until spring as I'm enjoying retirement and taking my time
to get it all done.
Oh yes, I am looking for about 60 feet of Rohn 45 tower and a heavier
duty rotor than I now have....I have several beams in storage too....
that "project" could take some time to get done too... :-)
My new QTH is on 2 acres with lots of trees and NO tower/antenna
RESTRICTIONS, even though it's in a deed restricted lake association.
It is just about 35 miles north-north-west of Houston....... and 4 miles
south of Magnolia TX, in Indigo Lake Estates.
I also want to say hi to all my friends on BA... been a while since I've
said anything much...

NOT A FIRM OFFER AT THIS TIME!
If anyone has an intact gear or a detailed macro photograph of one WITH
DIMENSIONS I can possibly duplicate it.
I have a small machine shop here with gear cutting attachments for my
horizontal mill.
Retired, (and not union) I may be able to help some out.
Not looking for business; just another HP and Tek test equipment freak <g>.
