I'd imagine the reason (for 800hz. power) might be the same as the older
shipboard transmitters for medium wave. They were supplied with 800 Hz. AC
high voltage to eliminate the need for an external modulator for the
transmitter when it was operated on the 600 meter band. Common practice back
then.
Mackay Radio New Orleans threw away a big pile of 110 vdc and 220 vdc input
and high voltage output at 800 Hz. for some of the old transmitters they
used to have years ago. The guy that ran the depot was an ex pre WW2 radio
operator and fiured someone out there would someday need some of those!
