One solution may be to use a WIRE-LEAD calibrator crystal.

I have a few of them available on 100 kHz.

Lee,
Can't see how the socket could have gotten loose. That crystal normally
will not be taken in and out very much. On such cases I just use a strong
stainless steel probe and bend the contacts back in shape. Then a tiny dab
of cement, wax or whatever to mechanically hold the crystal case in place. A
real extreme cure is a wire bail taken from aircraft equipment to hold tubes
in place.

Have seem mobile radio units that rattle around in trunks of cars and tool
boxes of trucks that had crystals plugged in that never came loose after
10-15 years of mobile service. Granted the 100Khz xtal is larger, but is
not subject to much movement in a 2C.
Strange.

I need to work on a Drake 2C calibrator. The Xtal socket needs to be
replaced because the crystal will not stay in the socket. The socket pins
have been spread out and will not make contact. Has anyone been inside one
of these? It looks like you have to unsolder some places on top of the
device to pull the board out. Anyone have a comment? Looks like this one
has been wet before.
