Hi Michael - my dad bought me an HW-18-3 at the Heathkit store in
Anaheim in 1969 when I was in high school. They were selling them out to
get rid of them.

This was to replace my homebrew 160 meter 6L6 transmitter and VFO I had
built a year earlier.

I built up the HW-18-3 and my dad built me dual VFO's so I could work
split using Swan dials and Jackson Brothers Ball drives.

It was pretty slick and got me on sideband. 160 was a whole different
ball game in 1969 due to LORAN.

I used it for several years and when I brought it to Arizona several
years later, it had developed an intermittent which I was never able to
fix.

The design was crystal controlled version of the HW-12, 22 and 32 series.

Definitely needs a VFO.

Have fun.

73,

Dave N7RK
