Thanks Dennis, that means this one is original, which is good news.  I 
know the later trans-citers did use BC variables and wondered if this 
one had been replaced.  Someone rewired it for 12 volt tubes, but I'm 
getting about 25 watts out of the 1625 final, so I think I've got all 
the "improvements" out of it now!
