First, and foremost, if you are a Veteran, or the surviving family member of

one, or helped in the defense of our countries freedom in any way, thank

you! Without the saccrifice of countless Veterans we would not be free

and enjoying sunshine, family and fun. Instead of slopping Catsup on a

charcoal burned Koegel frankfurter, but peering around the hand hewn Oak

roof beam looking for the flask of Jim Beam - for medicinal use only - while

trying to cram some black powder and a ball of Lead melted and molded in

what used to be your XYL's teflon coated eight inch browning skillet down
the barrels of your eight shot shoulder slung Gattling Gun! Not to
discourage undesirable relatives from showing up to freeload, but to keep

those guys who take a tea and crumbled bread break precisely at noon. Or

when the long dark line on the face of the sun dial points precisely at the

Roman numeral for twelve. Now if TLT + ST + GMT + UTC + CUT + Zulu ... time

standards or zones or local zones unique to a particular area - such as CET

instead of UTC - are not confusing enough, now they have to go and chisel

Roman symbols on the face of an analog sun dial!

Anyway, had we lost the Revolutionary War, well the U.S. Mint would not be
doing what the U.S. Post

office has not done. Made money! No, not just striking coinage or printing

currency by the U.S. Mints in Philadelphia and Denver today, (San Francisco

strikes only Proof, Mint sets and Commemorative coins nowadays), but

actually making a profit! Something the postal system has not done in over a

Century!

So while you enjoy yourselves this Memorial Weekend, keep in mind the "real"

reason for the time of celebration. Freedom is a word of only seven letters,

but those letters also equal another seven letter word, America! God bless

America and buy a Veteran a drink of his/her choosing! If it is "pure spring
water", be sure it is not that fine print copyrighted "Spring Water" stuff
that is in fact municipal filtered water. Or city water run through a
variety of filters to get rid of the stench of Chlorine, dead fish,
fermenting frogs etc. Or if nobody present can read that fine print with
their trifocals, grab a blind dude and have him sniff the top of the water
jug. Even with plugged sinus passages any blind dude should be able to smell
those "it ain't really spring water!" scents from ten feet distance
downwind!

The Saturday HHI 40 meter Net will commence one hour earlier tomorrow,

Saturday May 23rd! The Pre-Net kicks off at 11:30 AM EST/EDT, or 1530 UTC.

The Net proper begins at 12:00 PM EST/EDT, or noon or 1600 UTC. No fanfare

or fireworks, just some adjacent QRM and WX noises. The frequency will be

7.280 MHZ lsb +/- for key clicks, mike splatter and what sounds like a

motorized movie theater corn popping machine touring my QTH! No such luck!

Just my new neighbors to the East trying to mow that hay field with a gas

powered riding mower that surely must hold the world record for the most

backfires of a four cycle engine during one minute in time! Reminds me of an

old Horse my grandfather had on his farm in northeastern South Dakota named

"Popcorn". You can guess why!

The Sunday HHI 20 meter Net will commence one hour earlier also, begining at

the 11:45 AM EST/EDT, or 15:45 UTC. The frequency will be 14.293 MHZ usb +/-

for key clicks, mike splatter and several special segments about

Hallicrafters and WW2. Things I doubt that most of you have ever heard about

before, so join us, and propagation permitting, hear some history that has

yet to make its way into the history books!

Here is hoping to hear all whole grid load of you tomorrow and on Sunday! If

you do not have time to QSO, just stop by long enough to honk that vintage

horn and blow some CW words of greeting our way. If you are a Veteran,

please tell us! Why? Because I have something here that we would like to

send each of you who helped to make and keep America free.
